Boo was referred to our hospital back in June after he was diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma of his rib. Boo’s Mum discussed the treatment options with Dr Jessica Finlay, one of our Specialist Oncologists who recommend an abdominal and thoracic CT. During this CT Boo was also diagnosed with a lung tumour, unrelated to his chondrosarcoma. He had a surgical assessment with Dr Kadie O’Byrne, one of our Specialist Surgeons. Dr Kadie recommended Boo have a thoracotomy (opening of the chest) for removal of the right caudal lung lobe and associated mass. Boo’s dedicated Mum understood this was a tricky and major surgery but was keen to do whatever she could to help Boo so he underwent surgery with Dr Kadie and her team in August. Boo then had surgery to remove his chondrosarcoma, a few ribs and reconstruct his thoracic and abdominal wall. This also required reimplantation of his diaphragm. The surgery was a success and we are so happy to report Boo has recovered beautifully and is continuing to see both our Surgery and Oncology teams for follow up monitoring.
