Darcy came to us after having an anaphylactic reaction to a bee sting. This meant that her time outside had to be severely limited as another sting would have been life-threatening – visits to the park had to be stopped, and Darcy had to be carefully monitored whilst outside.

We performed allergy testing to confirm a bee venom allergy and found that Darcy was also allergic to wasp venom. After this test, she commenced the venom immunotherapy program. In this program, we inject increasing amounts of venom every week for a period of approximately 5 months. This is to ‘teach’ the immune system to stop overreacting to the venom.

Darcy graduated with flying colours, and a few months after finishing immunotherapy she had another sting with only a mild reaction. Going through the program meant Darcy and her family could resume their normal outdoor activities!
