We know a lot of our pet parents out there (particularly our Dachshund and French Bulldog parents) are aware about a condition called IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease), but did you know in some rare cases it can affect our feline friends too? Meet Ruben, a 6 year old cat who presented to our specialist surgery team last month with urinary problems and weakness in his tail. Upon further investigation with CT, Ruben was diagnosed with a disc extrusion in his lower spine. Ruben underwent a hemilaminectomy (surgery to remove the disc extrusion material) which was successful. Thanks to Dr Carla, our nursing team, and our team of specialist radiologists and anaesthetists, Ruben’s owners report that he is doing really well at home recovering from his big operation. The period after an operation like this is crucial to patient rehabilitation and recovery and we hope Ruben gets through it smoothly with the help from his loving family
